The Infirmary

This was built at the end of the thirteenth century. It had a large central hall flanked by two aisles. Remains of an apothecary has been discovered, and at the infirmaries of nearby Fountains and Reiveaux Abbeys, traces of profoundly complex and dangerous chemical compounds were discovered. Suggesting that the white monks were very skilled medical practitioners.

Very little remains of the abbeys infirmary today, the wall were stripped down to their present level in the centuries after the dissolution.
