Until the thirteenth century, the abbot lived and worked with his fellow monks, however as the abbey prospered it became necessary for him to live apart.
		The lodgings built around 1230 surrounded him with great comfort, with servants quarters in the basement, a first floor main hall and a second floor private room. All major rooms had ornate fireplaces and windows.
